چکیده

The measurement of river discharge is necessary for understanding many water-related issues. Traditionally, river discharge is estimated by measuring water stage and converting the measurement to discharge by using a stage–discharge rating curve. Our proposed method for the first time couples the measurement of water-surface width with river width–stage and stage–discharge rating curves by using very high-resolution satellite data. We used it to estimate the discharge in the Yangtze (Changjiang) River as a case study. The discharges estimated at four stations from five QuickBird-2 images matched the ground observation data very well, demonstrating that the proposed approach can be regarded as ancillary to traditional field measurement methods or other remote methods to estimate river discharge. Contribution of the Yangtze River to Ecosystem of the East China Sea

The Yangtze River of the China main land has recorded the decrease of sediment load in these 10 years because of construction of dams in the upstream region. The Three Gorgeous Dam, partly started its operation since July of 2003, has a significant contribution to reduce the sediment load with sedimentation. According to the Yangtze River hydrological report, the amount of discharge and the sed...

Variation of River Islands around a Large City along the Yangtze River from Satellite Remote Sensing Images

River islands are sandbars formed by scouring and silting. Their evolution is affected by several factors, among which are runoff and sediment discharge. The spatial-temporal evolution of seven river islands in the Nanjing Section of the Yangtze River of China was examined using TM (Thematic Mapper) and ETM (Enhanced Thematic Mapper)+ images from 1985 to 2015 at five year intervals. The followi...

Influence of tiller heterogeneity on yield components of rice grown under different nitrogen regimes

Increase in rice yield under excessive nitrogen (N) supply is negligible, hence it is necessaryto analyze the limiting factors via yield components. The present study was carried out during2014 and 2015 growing seasons in order to quantify the yield componenents of different typesof tiller at various N levels. Tillers were divided into three different types (superior, mediumand inferior) based ...

Estimation of suspended sediment concentrations using Terra MODIS: an example from the Lower Yangtze River, China.

Traditional measurements of suspended sediment concentrations (SSC) through in-situ sampling in rivers are expensive and time-consuming to perform. Thus, these methods cannot provide continuous SSC records. Although remote sensing has been used for SSC estimation, little research has been undertaken on inland rivers, especially for highly turbid rivers like the Yangtze. Previous studies have pr...
